Home Sweet New Home

Melba Swintex are delighted to announce the successful purchase of a new premises for their base of operations. Due to increasing restrictions of space and power, the company has seen such growth that the current site is no longer fit for purpose and are therefore in the process of relocating each machine to the new 17-acre site located in Ramsbottom.

The existing premises in Bury will cease association with Melba Swintex, and the target will be to have all operations fully up and running at the new premises as we enter into the New Year.

Throughout the move, the company will continue to trade as usual, with little to no interruptions noticeable.

Our New Address is as follows:

Melba Swintex
PO Box 700

Melba Swintex Base Collection

As we look forward to the Summer months that are now upon us, now would be the ideal time to prepare for the Winter season. Unpredictable weather brings unpredictable winds, and what better way to ensure the stability of your temporary barriers than the use of the Melba Swintex Heavy Duty Footplates, as well as our extensive range of Bases?

25kg Footplate

The 25kg Footplate supplies a substantial ballast to various traffic marking products. 5 separate hole locations provide multifunctional use, as well as 2 areas for personalised company identification. 4 easy-carry handles allow a smooth transition from the work vehicle to the installation site.

28kg Footplate

The 28kg Footplate is the big brother to the 25kg, with almost identical features, whilst also providing that little bit of extra weight for peace of mind. As well as incorporating features to secure standard beacon sizes seen throughout Europe, the Footplate features a housing compartment for any loose batteries if required.

Fence Base MKII

Need something a little lighter? The Fence Base MKII is suited for the mobile fencing market. Supplying a weight of 18kg, and 16 standardised holes ensures suitability for most construction jobs.

Q-Weight

For additional weight onto our Q-Sign range, the Q-Weight provides the perfect solution. Locating with ease onto the back leg, the Q-Weight reduces the chances of movement from the sign.

Road Rock

The Road Rock provides a whopping 15kg each, as well as a vast selection of uses. Its primary use is as a ballast to the Melba Swintex Barrier range, keeping them upright in Class A wind speeds.

Traffic Barriers – a weighty issue.

The Road Rock is primarily designed to be the ballast for our range of Traffic Barriers and fits the Gate, Master, Vision, Olympic and Tuff Barriers. Using two
Road Rocks per traffic barrier, or one when the barriers are in a boxed formation will make the barrier pass Class B Wind Speed Legislation (this is now mandatory in Scotland where barriers are left unattended for over 24 hours).
However the Road Rock has a few surprises up its sleeve…
Traffic Barriers

The Road Rock links to itself using a hook and tail connection similar to that seen on the Road Runner , this makes it possible to create a continuous run of the heavy duty linear traffic barriers.

Cylinder Housing.

The Road Rock also takes the Cylinder and Ariane and will twist lock into the top making a highly visible linear traffic barriers.

Wind Speeds.

The original concept for the Road Rock was all down to wind. Tests had shown that a minimum of 30Kg was needed for a barrier to withstand Class B Wind Speeds (17.6 m/s). ‘Safety at Street Works and Road Works – ACOP 2015’ states that all traffic barriers in Scotland that are unattended for a period of 24 hours or more, need to be capable of withstanding winds of Class B. At 15Kgs each, the Road Rock is the first ever product which provides the precise weight needed, every time, to withstand these wind speeds

Although we are most well know for being market leaders in the Traffic Management Product Sector we are also very highly regarded for custom moulding. Whether it be blow moulders, rotational moulders, compression moulders or plastic moulders we can do your customer moulding or trade moulding for you. We have great expertise in all these areas and are based in Bury in the UK.

For those new to trade moulding here’s a little explanation about each type.

Blow Moulding – Pre-mixed material is automatically fed into the Blow Moulding machine’s hopper, this material is heated until melting point, and then extruded vertically via gravity (known as the parison). Two machined profile moulds then encase the material, whilst compressed air is used to inflate the parison against the moulds. The plastic is cooled within the mould, and then removed after the cycle is complete.

Melba Swintex currently own six of the most modernised blow moulding machines of diverse size in the UK. It also owns the largest machine currently in the UK.

This is an example of one of the largest blow moulded products we do http://www.melbaswintex.co.uk/gate.php

Compression Moulding – Pre-Mixed Material is removed from the extruder after being melted, and then placed into one half of the mould. The top part of the mould is then pressured down and compresses the material into the moulding. A short period is allowed for cooling, and then the product is removed and left to further cool down.

Intrusion Moulding – Pre-mixed material is automatically fed into the machine hopper, this material is heated until melting point, and then extruded into the mould. The mould can either be water or air cooled. Once the product has solidified enough, It is removed from the mould either by hand or with ejection.

Rotational Moulding – Recyclable granulated polyethylene is placed inside the mould. A flame is held underneath to melt the plastic. The mould is then rotated continuously over a period of time. Centrifugal force causes the melted plastic to be pushed to the walls of the mould. The flame is removed whilst the rotation continues, after the cooling process the product can be removed.

So if you need a custom moulding whether by Blow Moulding, Compression Moulding, Intrusion Moulding or Rotational Moulding. Come and see what we can do for you.

Although we produce a wide range of products they can be broken down into road cones, barriers, signs, litter bins. But we don’t just do road cones we also do custom mouldings.

Road cones are usually intrusion moulded or compression moulded. If it is a two piece road cone the top is blow moulded and assembled with the base.

Traffic Barriers are blow moulded but the feet are intrusion moulded and connectors are injection moulded.

Signs are intrusion moulded in pieces and contructed at the machine very efficiently.

Litter Bins are rotation moulded. Whilst its an old technology its very good for changing colours in production,

Custom moulded products can be made in any of the ways below. We can advise on which method would be best for you but take a quick look now at the different moulding techniques we can offer you.

Hopefully from this you can see how our road cones, barriers, signs, litter bins and custom mouldings are made.
