    Construction

Each corner piece of the Hawk Tuff Tread is moulded with high accuracy out of recycled PVC. Careful design and consideration has been implemented into the location of the pieces onto the HDPE Trench Cover. Each piece seamlessly slots over each corner of the cover, with a vast array of fixing locations on both the underside, and top of the cover, to use to secure the pieces to the cover.

Each corner piece is fixed to the Cover using a collection of rivets which sit countersunk into the PVC.

    Testing

The Hawk Tuff Tread has been tested & approved for conformity to the HAUC Advice Note No. 2018/01 by Lloyds British & the University of Sheffield.

For more than 200 years, Lloyds British has been providing specialist testing, inspection, maintenance, certification and training for the lifting services industry. Founded in 1812 by the Admiralty to certify anchors and lifting equipment, they have built a market-leading brand on excellence, expertise and customer peace of mind.

The Department for Civil and Structural Engineering was founded in 1917 and is currently based in the Sir Frederick Mappin Building. With over 40 academic staff, including 12 professors, around 500 undergraduate and 170 postgraduate students, the Department is one of the largest and most active civil engineering departments in the UK.

Concentrated load tests were carried out in accordance to the criteria of the HAUC Advice Note No. 2018/01.

The Hawk Tuff Tread was placed unbolted over a trench span of 700mm.

When loaded with 400 kgs, the board should not deflect more than 5% of the maximum allowable span over the design life of the board. The ultimate failure load should not be less than 800 kg.

All tests concluded that the Hawk Tuff Tread conformed to all current legislation.
