YOUR SOLUTION TO SOCIAL DISTANCING

The ongoing fight against COVID-19 is seeing new ways in how we live and interact with one another. Our range of products provide various solutions to ensuring that the 2-metre social distancing we should all be implementing is encouraged and provided. We do specialise in barriers after all.

Gate Barrier
BARRIERS

The 2-metre range of temporary barriers are already being implemented outside supermarkets. The vast majority incorporate a courtesy sign area in which we can digitally print your message for extra communication.

Q-Sign
SIGNS

The Q-Sign range is a common sight around road works; however, we offer the ability to print custom sign faces to allow businesses to get their message and brand across. The use of highly prismatic material ensures your sign is seen.

WonderWall
SEPARATORS

Our range of separators are ideal for creating that perfect divide and are already being implemented within COVID-19 testing facilities up and down the country.

Minisign

CONES & DELINEATORS

For that gentle reminder, we offer smaller-in-size products with a large range of Cones and Delineators that allow quick deployment, with the facility to have your message printed onto the product.

Melba Swintex is Flying the Kitemark™

During the past few months, Melba Swintex has had its Traffic Cone range put through tough and vigorous testing. These tests have been conducted by BSI, the national standards body of the United Kingdom, to the technical standards set out within their publications, these of which are recognised globally as the definition and guidelines of all Temporary Traffic Cones. Its now official we have the BSI Kitemark™ for our range of cones.

As the standards published by the BSI are publicly available, any company can state claims of compliance to a standard for their product. However, these claims are often not validated by an independent organisation.

The Kitemark™ on the Melba Swintex Cone range gives you the complete reassurance that it is regularly tested by BSI and meets the requirements of the standard.

DECEMBER

Thanks to all our customers for making December the busiest one we have ever had.

Although we produce a wide range of products they can be broken down into road cones, barriers, signs, litter bins. But we don’t just do road cones we also do custom mouldings.

Road cones are usually intrusion moulded or compression moulded. If it is a two piece road cone the top is blow moulded and assembled with the base.

Traffic Barriers are blow moulded but the feet are intrusion moulded and connectors are injection moulded.

Signs are intrusion moulded in pieces and contructed at the machine very efficiently.

Litter Bins are rotation moulded. Whilst its an old technology its very good for changing colours in production,

Custom moulded products can be made in any of the ways below. We can advise on which method would be best for you but take a quick look now at the different moulding techniques we can offer you.

blow moulding road cones

Blow Moulding – Pre-mixed material is automatically fed into the machine hopper, this material is heated until melting point, and then extruded vertically via gravity. Two machined profile mould then encase the material, whilst compressed air is used to inflate the parison against the moulds. The plastic is cooled within the mould, and then removed after the cycle is complete.

Melba Swintex currently own six of the most modernised blow moulding machines of diverse size in the UK. It also owns the largest machine currently in the UK.

Compression Moulding – Pre-Mixed Material is removed from the extruder after being melted, and then placed into one half of the mould. The top part of the mould is then pressured down and compresses the material into the moulding. A short period is allowed for cooling, and then the product is removed and left to further cool down.

Intrusion Moulding – Pre-mixed material is automatically fed into the machine hopper, this material is heated until melting point, and then extruded into the mould. The mould can either be water or air cooled. Once the product has solidified enough, It is removed from the mould either by hand or with ejection.

Rotational Moulding – Recyclable granulated polyethylene is placed inside the mould. A flame is held underneath to melt the plastic. The mould is then rotated continuously over a period of time. Centrifugal force causes the melted plastic to be pushed to the walls of the mould. The flame is removed whilst the rotation continues, after the cooling process the product can be removed.

Hopefully from this you can see how our road cones, barriers, signs, litter bins and custom mouldings are made.

Our Starlite roadcone was brought out as a lighter, more economical road cone than its heavier counterparts the Mastercone and Bigfoot roadcones. As a road cone manufacturer this gave our customers a great choice of light, medium and heavy roadcones suitable for all types of roads and weather conditions. Sales of the Starlite have steadily grown over the years but showed a 33% increase in 2014 compared to 2012. This year shows similar sales and with no down turn in the  sales of Bigfoot and Mastercone the Starlite seems to have created a market all of its own. http://www.melbaswintex.co.uk/starlite.php

#roadcone #cult following

The Starlite cone is a two piece cone, with it’s centre manufactured from virgin HDPE, and base from recycled PVC. The cone is 100% recyclable and is fitted with the Melba Swintex high performance prismatic Starlux® sleeve.

Blow moulded top with easy grip access.
100% thermoplastic recyclable base with anti-slip feature.
Fitted with high performance Starlux® pocketed prismatic sleeve, offering superb daylight luminance and night time reflectivity.
Bases & centres can also be embossed and coloured.
The Melba Swintex sleeves fitted on to the roadcones are the best in the business and are often specified in worldwide contracts and tenders. Melba Swintex exports worldwide and the cones in particular are very popular in the European Market but they dont stop there. They export to Australia, Canada, America, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and to many many other countries.
